AHH CUTE!
I spent maybe 3 hours with these guys earlier in May. Needless to say I didn't get a chance to explore most of the zoo

I know! ^^ But there were a ton of people so I kind of had to slip through to get decent shots then slip out so others could have a turn.
It's a big zoo, this was my second trip and I still haven't covered everything >.>" Planning another trip in the fall or before the cheetahs leave.

I managed to go when school was still in session, so I had to contend with field trip groups (ack).
I have yet to really see their grizzly bears, They're either off exhibit or hiding pretty well. And I'd love to see their jaguars out and about. Managed to catch one pacing near the off exhibit door.

Yeah I know what you mean, went on a weekend, it was just yikes! D:>
The grizzlies are on exhibit, I caught them first thing in the morning on the Northern Trail loop (I was there 10am after getting up and leaving super early and I'm a night owl >.>")
September/October in the middle of the week is the best time for the zoo, after all the kids are back in school but while they're still open until 6pm and there's decent weather and sunlight in the evenings.

I think I've seen them once during my first visit. I'll have to dig around for those pictures. I ended up spending most of my time at snow leopards my first visit.

That is a good time. By the time September/October rolls around I'm back in school too. But I can still visit local places (though there aren't as many, but there's Yellowstone)

I didn't see them the first time I was there but I saw the ones at the Point Defiance Zoo.

School isn't much of an issue since my only class is just two days a week otherwise I work from home currently (there are no jobs in my town so not much choice but to do the leap of faith). Transportation is the big issue so I normally just ask to go to the zoo for my birthday. I'd rather have a good experience than gifts.

Oh wow lucky! I've never been to Yellowstone but I see all the photos from there and wish I could go.

Maybe you can ask to go to Yellowstone for your next birthday.

It is pretty nice living so close to the park. I haven't even gotten around to exploring a fourth of the park. I've seen all the major sites but I would like to explore the trails though.

Yeah that's not possible for me unless Idaho and half of Washington shrinks and I had the money to stay overnight or just money for a vacation. School comes first. But someday when I'm done with school or maybe if my book takes off it might happen.

What's the best place for wildlife you've seen?

Aw bummer.
I've seen a handful of photo contest where you can win trips to Yellowstone, so there may be an option.

All over the park I think!
I have yet to see river otters in the park or any felines. Coyotes are found throughout the park, and I've seen the most wolves in the Lamar valley just off of the road most of the time, or from a spot not too far from the road. Grizzly bears I've also seen through out the park, mostly in the central loops.
I've seen the most moose in the western part of the park in the teeny portion of Yellowstone that's actually in Montana.
For rodents, sheepeater cliff is a good spot. I've seen chipmunks, red squirrels, golden-manteled ground squirrels and marmots. There are also pikas present. Or any picnic area is a good spot for chipmunks because people like to feed them.
I've seen most of the bighorn sheep either in Lamar or between Mammoth and Gardiner in the sheep restoration area (go figure ) Deer pop up just about everywhere, same with bison and elk. Pronghorn at the north entrance and in Lamar.
uhhh, birds are a little harder. I've found the best time to see dippers is in the winter when the water isn't rushing from the snow melt. Ravens, just about anywhere. The calmest ones are going to be in areas that have heavy people traffic (mostly because people think that the birds need food so they feed them).
Clark's nutcracker, anywhere where there is forest. It's pretty hard to spot birds from the car, so best chances are to get out onto some of the trails.

And I've never seen any reptiles or amphibians, though I have heard tree frogs when there are a bunch of wetlands from the snow melt.

Wow that was a list!

Wow! Well when I get to go to Yellowstone I will be sure to print out your list

Yeah birds in general are hard to spot from cars, walking is always best (plus there's the whole finding a place to pull of the side of the road issue, at least around here, so many missed red-tailed hawks...)

I think farther south there would be more. In general I don't see much but I'm rather far north USA wise except Alaska. But when I do go through Eastern Washington there's always rattlesnake warning signs though I have yet to see or here one. I do hope to go to Kalispell, MT this year to visit family and they want to take me to all the nooks and craneys of Glacier Park before they move back to the coast. So there's a chance of seeing moose, black bear, grizzlies, big horn sheep and such there on the back roads where most the tourists aren't. That and I want another shot to see a great horned owl and osprey, I know where to find them there.

Oh and thank you so much for including the otters in your feature!!!!

Woodland Park Zoo, Seattle, WA, USA. The otters were just playing around and they do that all the time. Just have to have a fast shutter speed to freeze frame the more interesting moments.

I have seen otters in the wild and on the edge of a couple of towns. Never been able to get a good photo. Thanks for the post!
