Description
The rain had been soothing, her kiss a relief from the hell that had been that day, those trials, those tribulations. They made it… at least for the moment. Her kiss still lingered upon his lips. It had been their only moment of solitude and safety from everything else. But now, he was away from her presence, and back upon his path.

He’d felt the presence watching him multiple times the past few days… and he felt it again as he walked down this darkened hall. He couldn’t pinpoint where it was coming from, he just knew that the presence was close. Letting out a resigned sigh, knowing what fate had planned for him this night, he closed his eyes and thought back to that moment of bliss he had been allowed to experience.

A small smile crossed his lips, a small joy flared in his heart, and a tear formed and left his eye, leaving a small streak down his cheek. Falling into his thoughts, he acknowledged the fact that fate could be cruel, but smiling; he also accepted the fact that fate wasn’t unkind all the time; after all, it had given him that small bit of joy and hope before now.

The tension was building, it could be felt. His heartbeat was quickening, his muscles tensing up for the fight he wasn’t supposed to fight; a desire to fight, to win, and to delay the inevitable. It dawned on him, he could win this moment. Finally though, he regained his composure, calmed himself. Acknowledging the moment, he passed the only candle stand in the hallway. Stopping, he unclenched his hands, let out his last breath slowly. As he did, he looked out the window, smiling into the moonlight. He turned his head back straight ahead and nodded, mouthing, “I’m ready.”

With that he appeared from the darkness above, diving in an acrobatic arc from the ceiling. The thief’s punching dagger diving deep into the fighters back, the point shoving up through the fighters’ sternum. The blades moving so quickly, the candles were extinguished as well. A short gasp left the fighters mouth, as he felt his life slipping away. The dagger removed, he fell to the floor, closing his eyes, letting it all slip to black.

‘Nothing lasts forever, eventually there is death.’, was his last thought.
