Description He traveled many miles, through many cities, passing up many opportunities for a gold piece. He had only one destination, the city in which the letter had originated from, where his love resided. Traveling as fast as he could on foot, he had only one thing on his mind, to see if there was any possible chance of rectifying the damage.

Being on the verge of losing the most important part of your life can open your eyes to some very important things in your life, he had told me.

Finally, arriving at her abode, with a ragged, tear streaked face. Before knocking, he grabbed a pocket scarf out of one of his many pockets of his leather vest, and wiped his face off as best as he could. Taking a deep breath, his fist raised and knocked solidly on the door. Holding his breath, it seemed like an eternity before she opened the door. Her look of surprise, dismay, and utter pain, was absolutely crushing. Knowing not what to do, he raised his head, his look mirroring hers.

He pulled his hood back, letting the full light fall upon his face. The light revealed the face of a broken, beaten, utterly destroyed man.

His eyes speaking more than words ever could, and then he parted his lips to speak, “Please, I know I screwed up… give me a chance to make this right. I can’t lose you. I’d be losing a part of myself. Please, let’s talk about this.”

The tears in her eyes said more than her words ever could. She turned away from him, beginning to close her door. He took a step forward as she did, his foot, stepping into the way of the closing door, stopping it in its tracks.

“Let’s talk, please, give me a chance,” he said.

She just looked at him, with this look of “who the hell do you think you are” and said, “I’ve given you enough chances, to many times have you hurt me. My trust, my love, everything. The proper thing for you to do now is to make an exit, and we both move on.”

He just looked at her and shook his head and spoke a simple word, “No.”

Taking a step forward, he laid his hand upon her shoulder, and she flinched away and just stepped aside, letting him inside.

-----------------------

Now, since this is not my story, I couldn’t get behind those closed doors. Nor did the Rogue give me the option of hearing what was said behind those closed doors. They were behind those doors for almost three days, I could only assume that it wasn’t completely bad, but only time would tell.

I can only assume that he truly loves this woman, as I’d never seen him fight, in any form of the word, so hard for anyone or anything.

When they walked out, I saw them hug tightly. I happened to be close enough to hear her final words.

“Young Rogue… until we’re able to be together, and you settle down, we can only be plutonic. I can’t be hurt by you anymore, and as long as you wander like a vagabond, if we’re anything more than plutonic… you’ll end hurting me again, this I know, because well… you’re a repeat offender.”

He nodded and said, “Thank you for this final chance. I don’t deserve it, but thank you none the less. I won’t disappoint you this time. While I’m incapable of stopping my wandering at this point in time. While I’m gone… he’ll record my adventures, and misdeeds, and I’ll prove to you that my word, this time around is not a circle, and remains as true as my will.”

As he mentioned that I’d be traveling with him, I looked up from my book and nodded to the lady, before glancing down and recording the rest of this event.

I ended this story with a simple thought of my own.

While not all stories end happily ever after. They don’t always end badly either. While the rogue that I am following didn’t get exactly what he wanted. He didn’t lose either. After all, this was just a single chapter in his life, and redemption was never lost until your final breath was taken.
