Description

The rocky beach seemed glum and unmoving, the usually lively waves barely tickling the shore. The seagulls seemed glued to their nests, clamping their beaks shut and hushing their young. Not a single crustacean seemed to want to move about, they all were either hiding in their sand traps or recoiled as far as they could go in their shells. Although the water seemed calm, an inner turmoil must have been underway, as dead fish seemed to line the water’s edge, their bodies bloated and their eyes unseeing. Something truly miserably had set upon this rocky shore, and it was up to the Fornbloods of the land to try and rectify the problem.

It was supposed to be early morning the time the two horses arrived at the rocky sands, the sky so consumed with dark angry clouds that it appeared to still be night. The mare gazed at her companion uneasily, not liking how this beach was making her feel. The air felt heavy with danger, and she almost wanted to double back, all her senses screaming for her to turn tail and run. The stallion however seemed oddly at ease, his calm demeanour helping the mare to relax even just a little.

Turning his head slightly, the stallion made eye contact with the mare, a small smirk playing on his lips. “Don’t you worry about a thing miss, as long as we’re together I’m sure we’ll get through this.” The mare forced a smile upon her lips, eyes creasing as she did so. At least one of us seemed confident. The mare dragged her gaze away from the stallion as she scanned the beach, the stones under her hooves cracking under her weight. She couldn’t remember seeing a beach so gloomy before- beaches are supposed to be happy places, where many creatures come to frolic. This beach however, was in complete comparison to the image in her head. Snorting, the mare threw her head up as she sensed eyes on her, her own bright orbs flashing in alert as she frantically tried to find whomever it was that was spying on them. The stallion seemed to sense them too, his ears pinning to the back of his head as he pawed at the ground, flicking his tail haphazardly as he pranced ahead, his muscles rippling under his spotted coat.

As distance was spread between the two horses the mare felt her uneasiness increase, and with widened eyes she quickly followed the stallion, her ears too were pinned and her head held low. She felt like a mouse- a mouse that was being toyed with by a cat.

*SNAP*

Swivelling their heads around, both of their gazes fell on a large boulder- a giant crack split the boulder almost in two- but what scared the mare the most was the three sets of glaring red eyes that was hiding within it. The stallion’s eyes narrowed, his nostrils flaring as he pawed at the ground, whinnying in warning. Maybe he could scare the creatures away?

A menacing growl erupted from within the boulder, the sets of eyes splitting as the creatures emerged from the shadows. However, it seemed the creatures WERE the shadows, their entirety of their form was pitch black, their eyes pupil-less and glowing a miraculous red. They appeared to be a mountain lion, a fox and a large python- and the mare wanted nothing to do with them. But, it was too late to turn back now.

With an almighty roar, the three apparitions lunged at the two, the fox lithely jumping onto the stallions back and clamping down with what could only be imagined to be extremely sharp teeth. The python sprung like a rocket, quickly wrapping itself around the mare and was slowly but surely tightening around her. It all happened so fast, the mare setting off at a bolt to try and shake the snake, clamping her teeth around any part of its body to pull the wretched thing off. The stallion roared in pain as he reared and bucked, successfully shaking the fox-like creature off of him. He didn’t have much time to react though as a set of claws flung inches away from his face. These guys were tough, but were the Fornblood tougher?
