an illustration for dungeons and dragons of a young monk and his mentor, I believe they're Githyanki?I like the way the atmosphere turned out with this one.

I adore this picture as it reminds me of my ten years of martial arts and includes my favourite Dungeons & Dragons race. I actually wrote a small piece of fiction concerning the picture at one point!

The atmosphere is nice indeed: calm and studious, but with recurring reminders of the martial purpose of the scene.
I appreciate this image for how it plays with expectations. We know that the githzerai (not quite the githyanki) have a heavily monastic culture, but we never see intimate scenes like this one, in which the next generation is trained and socialized. The female mentor reminds us that their culture is sexually egalitarian, and raises the possibility of a different concept of motherhood without actually specifying the relationship between the two figures. The environment is appropriately simple and functional without compromising in its richness and detail.
I see that you even subtly included the race's elbow bumps and serrated ears. ^_^
