Description
This is a traditional watercolor painting. It is painted with Winsor and Newton premium paints and the whites of the paper are saved. No white or acrylic was used. Thanks to Hanratty Stock for her never ending well of great stock. Check her out here:[link]
for a wonderful pose. It's called "Betta Mermaid" Because my betta fish always would go to the surface to get air and blow lots of bubbles. So I painted her rising to the surface. I encourage critics because I'm going to repaint this one for a local show.

What a lovely serene athmosphere there is in this piece. For some critique I found her tail bit too short compaired to her arms.
I wrote whole book about mermaids last fall. I sent it to publisher last february. It should take 2-6 months when they send a reply. So far I haven't heard anything. Whole waiting is bit stressing.
Have you ever thought of writing or illustrating a book? I'm shore you would have skills for it

I wouldn't even know how to begin. I was asked to do a mermaid painting book. I would like to write an ACEO book. I don't even know who to send it to if I did. Got any ideas?

I'm shore it would be great to read and look book illustrated by you. Sadly I only know finnish publishing companies so I can't really help you with that. But look around if there is some publishing company somewhere in your area. You won't loose anything by showing the idea. ACEO book idea sounds very intresting. So don't give up hope.

The colors are really wonderful...anyway...about the anatomy...I think, umm...the stomach is kinda short...and also the legs...Btw, I love it all in all...^_^ esp, the background and color harmony...

Thank you for your input. I'll look at the next merms anatomy alittle closer. It's not easy to get a stretched out mermaid on a standard size. I looked at her so long I couldn't figure out what was odd.

Very nice colours and I love the backround, you have a great watercolour technique
I think her proportions are a bit different than what you usually see, meaning that her tail is sort of short compared to her upper body, but that of course might be intentional, who is to say what a mermaid is supposed to look like 
All in all very pretty!

General concensus is that her tail is too short. Good eye. Thanks for the rav on background. It's not as easy as it looks. Tried to make is 'flowy' Thanks for the comment.

wow the background is AWESOME, the pose is unique also. If ya gonna repaint this maybe change the hair color?... that orange-brown doesnt seem 2 flow well wit the pink+blue+purple scenario..

Gotany ideas? I had my color swatches and without going too dark, it's the only color I could come up with except 'green again'

I dunno, maybe pink? or lime green works fine too. I believe they'd sync perfectly with this amazing piece^^

When they have a different colored hair (other than blond or brown) they seem to always have pink or green. I have a color chart I made of the colors I have in my box of paint and this one seemed to at least not look too stupid. I didn't want more blue or purple in the painting. BTW, loved your yellow and magenta piece you just did.

I'm trying to approach my solo artists' occupation like a professional. I get up early and start my day and then paint for hours. It's not too bad. Not half as bad as these silly jobs I had in the past that beat me up for barely nothing.
