Description Commission I finished early for Kokomo-Con.

If you like Robinson & Harris' STARMAN, you're a friend of mine. I tried to push the stylization a little on this one; give it a little more character. It's a start.

The Shade, 11x15", ink on watercolor paper. Typical $50 commission; contact me if you'd like one of your own.

Oh WOW! It looks so fantastic! I love The Shade! And I love how you portrayed him in that neat pose with the cool stylized background! <3 Superb-splendid work!

How did you exactly, using ink, make those nice fading patterns/spots on his cape (can also be seen on most of the scrolls)?

Thank you!

The strokes just show a typical dry-brush application. I use a highly textured surface to do my initial ink drawing (a 400-series, 140-lb, cold-press watercolor paper), and an old brush (or sometimes a Pentel brush pen) to make the strokes. A light touch is all it takes; the tip of the brush makes a rather solid edge, while the base of the brush, near the ferrule, breaks up nicely over the texture of the board.

It's all about the surface.

You're welcome! ^^

Oh, I see. Very interesting. :3 Thanks for telling!
I hear/read it's also about the technique you use.

Someone got more than their $50 worth! that freak'n rocks! The layout is killer. My eye just keeps going around and 'round the lights and darks.

Aw, man; I really appreciate you saying so. I have been feeling like I need to push the surrealism with these single-character commissions, so this is my first step in that direction. It's all about creating the mood and visual punch, without adding unnecessary detail to weigh it down...
