Don't you have issues with these if you size them down?

Yeah obvioustly. It's just that I've had some issues with sizing down--
112 px was fine, but 28 px is just too tiny, and a ton of details gets lost.
I've had a distressing situation where I just couldn't do anything about a set of emotes for a commissioner (tried different compressions in sai and photoshop), bc they were unhappy with how they were not able to distinguish the emotes at their tiniest version.
But I guess there's just nothing that can be done about the 28 px size unless you're literally a pixel artist.

yeah there's not a lot you can do w 28px even if you're working with pixels. I had a request for some to be redone in a more painty style but said that they'd look too muddy so I just do them to this sort of level of shaded so they read better. I also don't really shade the eyes so that they read better when thety're smaller and don't get muddy.
If it helps I usually work to around 800x800 so that i can draw it decently then size down later. i usually zoom in and out during the process to check if it reads though.
another issue that i has was if i was tryng to size down a layered file. it'll rezise the layers separately and I was ending up with crispy edges around where i'd drawn lines which wasn't fun. that might be the cause of it?? I always flatten then at 800x800 before i go and reduce them down.
