Hey babez I thought I'd just let you know this design looks nothing like the last one I don't know what that person is seeing cause they are completely different. The markings, color, hair, the feet are very different as well. I don't know how someone could mistake this as a new ref for the other one.

dont you think its a bit out of line to make an adopt almost identical to the last one that got over $200
im just wondering because i wouldn't really be happy if someone got a character almost identical to mine when i bidded over that much

babezord In reply to WitchyGuts [2016-12-30 20:30:28 +0000 UTC]

I don't see how it's identical though, other than being in the same style and format i used in the last design. The legs are the only similar thing but I've used that other times on designs.
To be fair, all of my designs are going to be similar in one way or another because they're coming from me (the same person making them all) and i recycle many of my design aspects because i like them.

i get your point but i don't think it applies to this because they're not remotely the same designs.

ill leave it at that because that's all i really wanted to say about this honestly

just be wary about doing that kind of stuff cause i know buyers can get pretty upset if a design has the same traits as theirs

If you look at every other design i've ever mad though, I've reused lots of traits that i love a lot (e.g. white face, striped limbs, tiger stripes, upper/lower body contrast)
I've never had a complaint in the past regardless of the similarities and I've never seen it as a sly/lazy thing to do, so I'm really not sure how to take this new information.

i wasn't trying to upset you at all with this information, i actually REALLY love your designs and you inspire me a lot! i just didn't really want you to get any negative feedback from others if they also thought that it looked similar to the other design : 0

there's a difference between your style making a character look similar to using the same patterns in a design

WitchyGuts In reply to babezord [2016-12-30 20:39:51 +0000 UTC]

myself including other people ive talked to would disagree on it not being identical honestly
someone even thought it was the same character and that they just got a new ref from you, which isn't the case.

your logic doesn't really make sense, i've seen multiple artists make adopts countless of times without the design having similar traits, so just because YOU designed the character doesn't mean every design is going to look similar, it's called having variety and not using the same aspects from a previous design over and over

I'm really confused.
You're just talking about the leg pattern, right? There isn't anything else I can point out about the design that's similar to the the last in terms of design other than the leg pattern.
I'm certainly guilty of loving stripes and I use them often to cover large areas of the designs, and this isn't the first time I've used them for limbs.

me and others saw similarities in the hair (if it wasn't as messy it'd look pretty identical)
the tail shape is also similar, the dark fur at the neck would also be the same if it werent for the fact that they didn't end at the shoulders and continues to the arms like the other character

i'm not against you or anything, i just thought you'd like to know this because me and a  few friends of mine got confused thinking it was the same character when it wasnt ;;

I appreciate you looking out for me, but even those details you just pointed out are stylistic details i use often.

I can't understand how the tail shape would be crossing the line, considering that's just how I draw dog tails from time to time.
I'm not even sure how to respond to the dark fur at the neck, other than saying it's just a completely different pattern. (The idea i had for it was to mimic the collar of a dress)
Even if the hair was clean cut, the only similarity of the two would be the fact that they have bangs. It would seem silly if I was only able to make one design with bangs, you know?

The single standing detail I can't argue over is the leg stripes- and sure, maybe it was lazy for me to make another design right after the first and give it the same leg marking, but I just thought it looked nice after i put stripes on the ears. ):
oh yeah, and i used pink again. I different shade of pink, but I guess I was still in the mood to draw soft cute pink dogs.

I very intentionally used the same exact style and brushes for both designs because I loved how the first one came out - which probably lends heavily to them looking similar - but that doesn't mean the designs are at all the same

Sorry for continuing this but it's honestly SUPER bothersome and I can't in the slightest see how you're seeing these things ):
Integrity in my art and designs is very important to me

WitchyGuts In reply to babezord [2016-12-30 21:19:29 +0000 UTC]

im not saying the tail is crossing the line, its just something that was similar to me

and nah its fine i dont really mind you continuing it, it's not really stressing me out and i like to see other peoples point of view on things, i was actually wanting to see what your opinion was on the matter : 0

i really do love the stripes, like yea having the stripes be in the same place so soon was eh? but it does work with the design, i know stripes are a HUGE part of your style so i don't really mind that, it was just that it was the same thing as the last design (apart from it going all the way up near the stomach?)

again im not trying to upset you or anything and i do love your designs, ive always wanted to get one from you because AESTHETIC

thank you for being so civil with this though? like major props to people that can be civil and talk about this instead of arguing and getting all..riled up?

i'm really sorry for upsetting you with this, i think it's just mostly the fact that it's also got a greyscale version that really makes it look similar to me? if that makes sense

babezord In reply to WitchyGuts [2016-12-30 21:38:29 +0000 UTC]

It's really no problem, I'd much rather someone voice something like this to me instead of keeping it behind my back and causing drama ):

I think the grayscale thing again is just another aspect of the format that I use for almost every design (and the first one's isn't actually grayscale, it's just the same hues tinted to be softer for the eyes)
but almost every design I sell I will give the colors another go, usually making them less saturated in some way, and i'll post the two versions up and sell them together.

and like i mentioned before, i intentionally made them stylistically similar (e.g. the eyes, the lines, the hands and feet, the tail, and overall body and head shape) but I did so kind of like repeating a theme, you know? kind of like how you post a batch of designs that all have the same lines, but they match in a way. I thought it was a charming theme imo and I wanted to keep it going.
regardless of using the same style though, I tried and feel like I did succeed in making this design different from the last.
