19 days late and not op, but; selective mutism is it's own disorder (form of severe social anxiety) that literally renders the person unable to speak in certain situations, obviously mainly those that cause anxiety (from what i understand). its sometimes misdiagnosed as autism because being non-verbal is a symptom of autism, however being non-verbal in ASD terms isnt caused by anxiety and is just, literally how the person communicates regardless of anxiety or not. selective mutism and autism can both be diagnosed in the same person, though.
tldr: no, selective mutism is caused by anxiety, but selective mutism and autism can both be diagnosed in the same person
