I find it hard not to take a Cubone with me at that point of the game.

I just finished playing the Lavender Town part, and I just felt awful when I got to the Pokemon Tower. I was fully intending to capture a Cubone so that I could shower it with love because I felt so sorry for it. And then I encountered a Cubone, put it to sleep, and tried to throw a PokeBall at it only to get a message that my current Pokemon Box was full on Bill's PC and I couldn't harmlessly catch it. I had to beat it.
I never felt so awful playing a video game.
