I tried to draw Bismuth's hair to look like real-life bismuth crystals, as seen in these two photos here [link] (under "Characteristics"). Whenever my colorist gets around to coloring her, she'll have rainbow-y hair like those crystals, too.

Heh-heh, yes, it was a very interesting exercise to do, especially since I've rarely ever done personifications. I'd like to make more Periodic Table characters in the future, whenever I have more time to.
