It looks like he's a bay roan. Bay roans are crosses between red roans and blue roans. (; (;

"Bay Roan" is Red Roan. The base of Red Roan is Bay lol

Red roans have bases of chestnut, or at least that's what I've been told. Bay roans have sorrel. Sorrel is more of a dull brown, then the chestnut has red. Like I said though, this is just what I've been taught. I don't know everything.

Strawberry roans are chestnut based. Red roans are bay based, purple roans are brown based and blue roans are black based. I was in a hippology class last year and we went over it lol

Technically you are right if you think about the genetics, (all a bay is, is a chestnut horse with black points) but it's the black points that make the difference.

I'm not trying to sound like I'm implying I know everything, though I can sometimes come off that way Sorry if I did

It is yes we were discussing it last weekend at the farm. I believe he's registered as a grey but he's like a blue roan/red roan cross

Do you know what breed of horse this is??? The Pure Andalusian Colt/Gelding at the barn I ride at looks A LOT like this horse. He's constantly changing color and only with being close to two years old (in the end of september) he's already 15-16hands and still growing.

I most certainly do know what breed he is *lol* He's a Peruvian Paso. Similar but still very different then a Paso Fino. Rio is just a little guy, I don't even think he's 15hh and he's definitly done growing. Peruvian Paso's are generally shorter then some of the other 'gaited' horses and Rio is very typical to the breed.

Haha, yeah I was just wondering, cuz like I said, the Gelding who's about 2 years old now looks A LOT like him.

By the way, VERY beautiful guy.

How beautiful, really! What exactly kind of colouring is this? Some sort of roan; or perhaps a type of silver dapple?

Bakermum In reply to Freedom-Falling [2008-09-04 00:39:17 +0000 UTC]

So far as I know it's just a type of roan. Silver roan perhaps? Thanks for the comments
