Well the Director and creator of it wanted to do other things so he did Krampus and funny enough he's directing the legendary Godzilla movies right now. And he has said that he wanted to do another Trick R' Treat movie because he sees more potential in exploring more of his character Sam (which was his oldest character ever because he created Sam when he was a teen) but he said it's up to Legendary pictures to want another sequel

Oh fun fact in his old cartoon short called Seasons Greetings that introduced same the last shot actually had the directors blood on it because he accidentally cut himself while animating it
