But it's nothing compared to a child between baby and 10, especially when they are in a restaurant and start crying and shit. It really makes you want to go up to the mother and ask why she's not spanking that child.

I don't really know who has met what in Lovecraft stories so I assumed everyone's got some connection to the Old Ones.

Eh, a common misconception.
the Great Old ones and such were usually background elements in HP Lovecraft's works...now August Dereleth that's another story as he is why people think Cthulhu was an elder god and assigned all these elemental stats and whatnot. Lovecraft himself focused more on the human side of the stories. Cultists, scientists tinkering with life and reality, detectives, horrible things living underground and kept secret by little towns and whatnot. He was the grandfather of that horror.
However a handful of the Yog-sothoth and Dagon type stuff really caught onto the long term and people who continued the stories in his universe. As well he allowed other people to write stories in the same universe.
Also a fun fact: Lovecraft and Robert Howard were friends and their stories took place in the same world, only in different time periods. Yep Conan the Barbarian takes place on the same Earth as Call of Cthulhu and Shadow Over Innsmouth and whatnot; just Conan is set back in Hyborean times.
