In Equestria, dinner parties are serious business, second only to tea parties. If Celestia doesn't like Twilight's silverware and table setting, Twilight will have to turn in her princess license. At least that's how it works in my headcanon.

That's spot on. In the episode, we have seen that in Equestria, even banners with pictures of the guests attending the dinner party are hung up. That's how serious they take that.
