Why would anyone scrap this? I only scrap things that I accidentally draw on notebook paper.

this is really cool. it reminds me of when i was younger, and i used to create houses on islands out of clay. They were each probably around 18" high, and a foot across. That was back in 3-4th grade, though. I still like them, though.

It has a lovely cartoon picture post-card sort of feel. And definately it's one of those "private places in the mind" images. But what a wonderful little image it is. *s* It's good to see you rolling with your ideas... otherwise it gets pretty lonely waiting for Balaa art.

Ive been weighed down by one commission in particular..its nearing completion but oh how slowly it seems to be going! I have pondered whether to upload the works I post on sheezy here but I do not want to clutter this gallery with cartoonish works! I really want this gallery to remain diverse and not paint me as a one style wonder, so to speak.

I don't think you need to worry too much about that hun. You know anyone worth their salt who is super interested in your work is going to take the time to look through your gallery. I can understand what you're thinking but those who just see a string of pictures and judge you by style on the spot aren't going to look at more than the featured selection and the latest preview anyway.
The rest of us are going to dig deeper when we like what we see. Even your cartoon works that I have seen so far are different in subject and scope... some more realistic than others. Basically, you're doing what things interest you and doing them well.
I see no reason to apply any other title than "good artist" to your worthy works and self.

I never much thought of it in that manner! Thank you for opening my eyes ! I suppose you are right and perhaps my paranoia has some grounds as I've recently been the target of a large attack from a popular artist and their..humm lets call them fan groupies/aka sheep. Ive been called a thief and had and am still having my name dragged in the mud. It is an unnerving feeling. especially to be called a no name wannabe. In fact it downright makes my blood boil. On the one side I do not care what these people say simply because I know who I am and what defines me as an individual, yet on the other hand when this nasty business started I saw people I considered friends turn their backs on me with such ease. People can be rather fickle and though one must remind oneself that it is JUST an online art community, in many ways I can only share my work online. For that matter I share my art with the world online, not simply a single limited geographical area.
I do not have enough words to thank you for your always enlightening insight and kind words.
Thank you muchly !!!!!!

Let me show you something.
is a Varied Artist
is Female
is a deviant since Mar 11, 2003, 5:18 PM
is subscribed until Apr 12, 2005, 10:22 AM
has 22,932 pageviews
That's you.
And 22,000 plus page views is nothing to sneeze at. You know how many times you don't get a hit on that marker when someone just looks at your newest drawing?
The fact is, you are a popular artist as well.
Now... I'm sure you've heard the rule that you can only please some people part of the time, and you can't please everyone all of the time? Well, behind everyone of those comments is a person, but they're just people, and people are often foolish, lazy, and fickle. (Yes, even the good ones.)
There are over 6 billion people on this little orb, and gods uncounted personalities to run across. I've been told there are something like just four original stories in written work, and our art comes from a similar process. And so, there are two ways of looking at any given work.
First school says that you are an original person.
The second says that you are an original person, just like everyone else.
Once you realize that everyone falls between the two schools, you're set. See, your work is your own, original creation as long as you don't sit down, snap an electronic picture, and sign your name to it. You might attempt to copy someone's style on purpose, but you are not a machine and you will never be able to create an exact copy, no matter how close you come. And on the other end of the spectrum, you may spend your life creating your own original pieces from out of the ether of your mind and never look in your whole life at another person's work...
But the imagination and crativity you draw upon to create those works were influenced by your very real experiences, and every artist draws on this life. And with all those who came before, and all who are here now, and all who come after, it cannot be but a given fact. Someone, somewhere, sometime, is going to do a piece that looks very much like what you've done. And you will do the same with someone else.
The more our world becomes truly global, and the more you see in a community such as this, the more you will realize the truth of that; the more you see the more you will be influenced, whether it to be not like someone or be like someone... the true artist only has two goals in mind... to tell their chosen story, and to improve in that telling.
Now... in regards to other people... the minute you want to join a community, you run the risk of being trod upon and hurt. But that is a risk you take to earn praise and adoration. And of course people being what they are those you think friends today might be enemies tomorrow. It's a risk to take and a lesson we all learn. The best you can do, as I said to you once before, is do for you. Make yourself happy... and the praise and adoration you recieve will be all the sweeter, while the curses and the criticism will still hurt, but, if you are really happy and sure of your work, what others say in disagreement won't really matter at all, because you will have been pleasing you.
And while it is nice to share and be appreciated, your own opinion is the first to matter, and is definately the most important. Only you know for certain what you were trying to say, and only you will know if you said it right. (Or painted, or sketched, etc.)
And now that I've preached at you more than enough, here:
Just thought you could use it.
Bless you. Never stop creating. Pay little attention to your detractors, except where their crits can help you grow.

Wow. That is so cute! I'm getting a sorta "Lilo & Stitch" feel here.
The whole pic is very relaxing and peaceful. I like the pillowy clouds scattered around and the hotel itself is amazing. I like the dimensions and the look of the windows and stuff. The addition of the little rowboat down there is great too. Marvelous job! I don't think it really deserves to be put into 'scraps'.
