It’s been at least a week since I’ve uploaded anything so I thought I’d give a wee insight into some of my current folio work for my Higher Art and Design Course. These are some more elaborated costume dress concepts that I’ve created for my chosen Shakespearean play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” – which I thought I’d cliché a little and try to base on romantic and floral elements.

I researched dresses from the Shakespearean era and tried to incorporate a more contemporary design by choosing a shorter length dress to flaunt the legs and emphasise the female figure. I also found some inspiration from John Galliano and his sexy, light and modern designs which have appeared in the Christian Dior Collections.

These dresses are focused on the character of Titania – the Queen of the fairies. I wanted to create light appearing designs which would be suitable for onstage use and offer good mobility to the “client” actress. I had a cowardly attempt at colours (using crayola colouring pencils) on my personal favourite for which I chose red to emphasise passion.

I’ve never tried making a dress before so it’s probably likely that if I do choose to attempt one of these designs that they’ll come out a lot worse than I anticipated!
