So, I’ve been massive overwhelmed on the art front for a long time now, especially during Christmas and the new year. This is when it’s important to make sure that you always stay connected to things that you enjoy most so that they can inspire you when you’re down.

Being overwhelmed creatively sucks because you get to the stage where you can’t even get started. In one of these downhearted moods I decided to sit down and watch TV with my daughter, who suggested we watch the Legend of Korra - one of my favourite shows. To this day I still don’t think people realise how good this show is.

Whilst watching it I paid attention to the camera angles and the fights and all the different poses and realised just how amazing it is. How much time and effort went in to all the martial arts movements. When we’d finished watching it I went back and put it on my computer and stopped the screen when there were some really cool poses and just copied them. Sometimes I’d embellish them a little no add more muscles, sometimes I’d keep them really simple and almost wireframe or contour them so I could learn how they work. Sometimes I’d take a pose if a male character and then make it female and vice versa. This way, I was learning from the reference but using my imagination to change things up and be creative.

I highly recommend this next time you’re in a slump. And I’m relying on you lot to remind me of this when I get down again too! 😊😉👍🏻
