Description

In the Age Before Creation, the fate of most civilizations was to be ravaged and consumed by the Worm .

But the process was not immediate. While the Worm planted its cysts into all planets with the potential for intelligent life, said cysts would only hatch and do their harvest when the civilization reaches the brink of collapse. Patiently, they would wait beneath the earth for the inevitable decline of the people above – and when their world is at its lowest, they would erupt from below, and devour it all! But sometimes, the expected natural process just… didn’t happen.

And for whatever reason, the inhabitants of the planet did not fall into ruin…

And because of that, the Worm had developed its Shepherds!

Emerging from the cysts in small numbers, these highly specialized wormling colonies were tasked with guiding civilization to the desirable end. Armed with the powerful arcane technics, they were instilling subliminal messages into the most influential people of the planets, sending visions and orchestrating events. Occasionally, they were even revealing themselves to locals as angels or gods: sometimes in their true form, and sometimes using glamour to disguise themselves as the beings from the native faiths. The sermons they spoke in such cases almost always involved apocalyptic motifs of some sorts: encouraging people to neglect the destructive influences on their natural world, as that world was fated to be destroyed anyway in some kind of divine rapture. And technically, they weren’t lying about that…

Though the existence of Worm Shepherds had been suspected by the assemblians, none had been ever encountered. And yet we, as the omniscient observers beyond the forth wall, can clearly see how they looked like right here. Majestic, aren't they?
