Her heart felt as if it might leap out of her chest, her paws were trembling with a mixture of nerves and hesitant anticipation. Her ears were flattened thoroughly against her skull, her tail was twitching nervously. Tonight was the night. But...was she ready? A string of panicked thoughts swarmed through her head, threatening to flood over and overwhelm her completely. She swallowed, finding it difficult due to the lump in her throat, and took a quick, reassuring glance at the starry sky overhead. The stars of silverpelt shimmered tranquilly above, sending a hint of calm through the young apprentice - no, the soon-to-be full medicine cat. The thought made her shiver.

"Meadowpool?" she whispered quietly, though her voice was so shaky and quiet it was inaudible. Maybe I'm really not ready. Maybe...maybe I'll never be. What if...
So caught up in her thoughts the young she-cat was, that she hardly noticed that they had descended into the earth, and she held back a gasp as an enormous cavern opened up ahead, and at its heart lay the most wondrous sight she had ever seen. Though she had been to the moonpool multiple times, it never ceased to fill her with awe - the sparkling water seemed to immerse the entire cave in a soft blue haze, creating an unbelievable peaceful, mysterious, ethereal feel. And at its heart shone a brilliant stone, surely placed their by StarClan itself. She felt a shiver run down her spine.

"Splashpaw,"

The sound of Meadowpool's soft voice calling her name made the tortoiseshell tabby jump, and she snapped to attention, sitting across from her mentor, though she was sure she wouldn't be able to hear the words of the ceremony for the blood rushing in her ears. She took a deep breath, trying to keep her paws from trembling.

"I, Meadowpool, medicine cat of NightClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of a medicine cat, and with your help she will serve her Clan for many moons." The dark medicine cat's voice seemed to echo off the walls, until the entire cavern was reverberating with the ancient ritual. StarClan, was this nervewracking.

"Splashpaw, do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stand apart from rivalry between Clan and Clan and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?"

This was it. Don't back off now. Swallowing heavily, Splashpaw shifted her paws and did her best to stand a little taller, like Shiningwing would do - though an ear still wavered, betraying the nerves that made her stomach twist. "I do." The words were quiet, final, sincere.

"Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your true name as a medicine cat. Splashpaw, from this moment you will be known as Splashleaf."

She barely even heard the rest of the ceremony, for the rest of her words seemed to pass in a haze. StarClan, was this even real? Or was it a dream? Splashleaf, Splashleaf," The water cascaded down beside them seemed to whisper, welcoming her by her new name. Splashleaf. The name sent a shiver down her spine, and she felt her heart twinge with excitement, though her eyes were solemn and for a moment, appeared to hold more wisdom than the young cat ever thought she would bear. Splashleaf.

From this moment on, now and forever.
