Description
Another World of Warcraft fanart commission, this one of ancient draenei priestess Anatevka, surrounding herself with memories of her homeworld Argus. There's not much art out there to define Argus, so I gleaned a lot of it from the draenei designs in places like Exodar and Shattrath, plus some wonderfully inspiring references the client supplied. The scene itself was greatly inspired by the work of Alma-Tadema, lovely Classical ladies lounging on balconies; the tree is referenced from one such painting of his.WIP's and more can be found on my tumblr! dianekraus.tumblr.com/

This look so amazingly beautiful. I know you said you were going to stray away from Warcraft commissions, but do let me know when you're willing to open up another slot to take one. Draenei are my absolute favorite and I think you're the first artist to capture them - and their ancient homeworld - exactly as I have in mind.

I really love how Ana is captured here. She's a favorite character when I see her player bring her out. Ancient, no-nonsense, well set in her ways and beliefs, and it's kept her going for millennia. Nice imagining of Argus, too! The little...moth? And the tiny figures in the background going through their day really caught my attention, and the reflections in the water are very nicely done.

Thanks! There was so much to paint in this one I'm glad Ana herself came across well. I don't know if I ever got to meet her in-game but I've always enjoyed her writing, especially since I'm fond of draenei myself. Argus was a challenge and part of me wishes I could have zoomed in on more areas... like I want to go down in those streets and find corners and alleyways and pools and fountains and so forth. But for grasping the whole scene plus the character at once the balcony/background inspiration worked well enough.

Yeah, Ana's stories are among those that make me despair at my own writing XD All of her stories are so beautifully done, drawing in with just lovely sentences that build a scene, a mood, and the characters.
