Project Staircase, a series of inhuman science experiments in species crossing in the 1990s, mixing human DNA with animal DNA, head by the brilliant yet heartless, Dr. Barry Morridon. Many lives were ruined by the experiments taken on people, turning them into mindless beasts, driving them insane, or turning them into social outcasts with nowhere else to turn. This was the first victim of these experiments.

George Morridon, Barry's older brother, who served for over 10 years in the US army. After a while, he settled down with his wife and his daughter for a peaceful remainder of his life. All of that would be destroyed when Barry offered him a chance to change the future for humanity. Using a transmutational serum that combines the DNA of several lizard species, including the Gila monster, thorny devil, and Komodo dragon. This would give humanity the strength, speed and biological defense of lizards while allowing humans to look mostly like themselves and live normal lives. It would be the process of making humans better and stronger in-case, in Barry's mind, more gifted species like Elves or Orcs ever attacked humanity.

George was willing to help Barry make his dream of a better humanity come true. Instead, after a month after taking the serum, George turned into a mindless, lizard-like creature who's only thought was hunger. Living in the sewers and the docks at the West District of Lost Shine, for 30 years he has lived as an unkillable creature. While his wife and his daughter were disheartened by George's transformation, Barry considered that experiment a failure, using it as the catalyst to improve his research, not caring that the experiment turned his brother into a monster.

Rumors and stories surround the reptilian man who lives in the deepest, watery parts of Lost Shine. A mindless lizard man who eats all that come across him. Many do not know his real name or the man he was before. They only refer to him as the one who munches on bones... THE CRUNCHER.
