They look like creatures you would use to cross the desert on.

They're just adorable. But are there really some like the third one?

I love how you made them likeable. In all the macrophotography of them they look like little horror movie monsters!

Awesome! Any more on the way, perhaps?

We should understand their biology further so we can develop an ultraefficient escape pod Β or maybe a micro spy drone

We already have a thorough understanding of how anhydrobiosis works in Tardigrades, but preventing radiation damage while in space is something scientists have been working through.

Fantastic illustrations here, I like the extent of which you have conveyed their anatomical contrasts. The one of Echiniscus Virginicus is the on I'm particularly fond of out of these. I absolutely adore tardigrades, they're easily one of my favourite invertebrates.

It is really nice to see realistic biological illustrations. I think it is becoming something of a lost art, and that is a shame.

I agree, it is a constant defensive battle among colleagues; they say, "Wouldn't a photograph be better?" No, because an illustration captures and defines the essence, the nuances, and the details that the human eye seeks out to understand the subject. If you are trying to learn muscle anatomy you would not learn much from a photograph of an open carcass. If you want to learn about the wildlife of a biome, a single photograph will not exhibit every key plant and animal. An illustration can show a process, a cycle, cross sections, and species interactions not observable at a glance. That is why biological illustration still exists. It is still essential for us to understand and define the world, not just mirror it.

My supervisor didn't like it when I did some for my honors thesis and made me take them out. Granted, the scanner did not do them justice and they weren't as good as yours to start with, but he seemed to have something against them in principle.
I'm glad to see it being used.

May I use this in my school science magazine? I'm doing an article on tardigrades.

I wouldn't want to be goldilocks sleeping upstairs in their house. The third one especially makes me think of a mutant naked mole rat from hell. Nice work.

I didn't make a connection to Goldilocks before... but now I think that it's a children's book that must be made.

Woohoo! Tardigrade love! Thanks for giving us a peak at the diversity of species. It is indeed amazing how diverse their forms can be.

I remember (from a childhood encyclopedia of the animal world) tardigrades are able do survive extremes of dehydration and exposure, seemingly reanimated when rehydrated. Love them. Nice illustrations.
