"...I still wanted to say that the trees seriously resembled hands! I've never thought of trees like that.
If you've never thought of them like that, then start thinking that way. Try and make nature resemble something to that of ourselves. In fact, you should try to draw a tree that resembles one of your family members and their distinct characteristics and mannerisms. For example, if your father happens to be a tough kind of guy, draw a tree with rough, peely looking bark that resembles a silhouette of him. I guarantee you I would be the first to comment on it if you decided to do it.

Great job and interesting concept. So how much is charcoal and how much photoshop?

The trees are all charcoal, and drawn on separate pieces of paper. They're all pretty large; each more than a foot tall. I used Photoshop to resize the trees to match each other and align them horizontally. The ground is digital.
Some people aren't big fans of using more than one medium, but I'm always enthusiastic about it if it contributes to the final outcome.

This reminds me of "Chiller Theater" - it was a program in NYC back in the late 70's where they'd show old horror films. Before the movie the had this creepy animation of a decayed hand coming up from the ground - reminds me of this. It gave me plenty of bad dreams back when I was a kid!

Beautiful. =O I'm not sure if it's intentional, but I see the head of a little imp-like creature in front of the second-to-left hand. She looks a bit startled.

A simple, but profound work. I think simple concepts carry a lot of impact when done well, and this is one of them. I like the detail in the trees and the splashes of paint at the roots of the trees reminds me of blood.
