Description another commission for

a idle battle sprite for a mushroom-like monster :3 even though there's no need for it to be a cycle, it ended up pretty "cyclish" so now it seems now like he's a mad slasher in furious rage mode xD

enjoy ^^

PAUSE seems to have made the point I was going to, theres so much action in his upper body, that theres no way his lower body wouldn't have to compensate in some way, very few movements that involve the full use of the arms or the legs are not accompanied by some kind of response by virtually all other limbs. Think of the movement in terms of how it affects the entire body. I might even suggest you try some gestural studies? Theyre a great way to really understand fluidity of movement, and you can do them pretty much anywhere, since all you need is something to draw with and people to watch moving. Parks, malls, streetcorners, etc.

I'll try practicing more... I just need some practice: that one was my first attacking animation. thanks for the feedback, I appreciate a lot ^^

Don't mention it, and really, you could do much worse for a first attempt. The other animations, (idle, walk cycle) are great, I wouldn't touch them, because the character design is really solid. I can understand the hesitation to do such vast movement, it's one of the reasons that I haven't tackled something like a fighter or brawler, it's just a lot of work.

I know what you mean! but I'd like to make some graphics like the one in the old fighting games like king of fighters or last blade someday

Whats your process like for this? Do you do everything digitally, or do you start with sketches and then work from those?

The only reason I ask is because though I tend to do every step of my pixel art on my computer from start to finish, with something as dynamic as fighting game sprites, you really probably could benefit from at least sketching out the key frames, and then converting them to line art before working with them in the resolution you want. You could sketch them out on paper or with a tablet, but really, its that fluidity thats going to seal the deal. A strong grasp of anatomy is also going to be a huge help, even if those games tend to have a more anime inspired feel, they're still working with pretty standard human proportions. Life drawing or an anatomy book would be a good place to go. You don't need to have skills of Michelangelo, but knowing the basics is going to let you know what and where to stylize.

You have a strong grasp of things so far, and you probably already know most of what I already told you, or have already come to those conclusions, in any case, just my suggestions.

well I usually do everything on the animation itself. I start with moving the various part of the body of the figure where the should ideally stand from frame to frame. for example, I copypaste the head in the position I want it to be on every frame, then redraw the parts (or the whole head) depending on the angle from which the head is seen. Since I started only recently I don't have a lot of experience behind my back so I don't know.

Sketching on paper is also a good way to figure things out. For example, if I have to draw 3 character sprites for a game, I want them to run in 3 different ways that characterize each one. So I first make some quick sketches on paper of what the running (or idle, or attacking) pose would look like for that character.

Since I used to draw traditional (even though my newer works aren't on dA) I easily figure out poses, stances and this kind of stuff x3 proportions are kinda automatic too :3
