Description Emphasis on the "animated". Because of finals week, I never really have the time to compose/draw anything new, so I'm being lazy and doing a bunch of memes for the heck of it.

Created/blanked by:

HONORABLE MENTIONS
Beetlejuice
Danny Phantom
American Dragon: Jake Long

10. Recess
Unlike a lot of old Disney cartoons, Recess wasn't one of those shows I thought "Meh, okay". However, much like shows like Gargoyles, Recess had a fully developed story-plot and a likable cast (well, most of them likable; I hated Randall, that creepy stalker kid who always tattled on everyone, and the Ashley Bitches). It also took childhood nostalgic values (i.e., good cafeteria food) and made them really big things worth fighting school policies for, which I thought was kind of fun.

9. DuckTales
Yeah, let's ignore that immortal theme song and focus on the show. I actually don't remember a lot about the show except the premise and a few others; Scrooge McDuck and his nephews finding hidden treasure. The rest well - I remember Webby (and hating her and her whining), that one witch character, the Beagle boys, that pilot who can't fly...and that's it. I think I just watched it for the Indiana Jones style adventures.

8. Magic School Bus
Oh, the very first show I ever watched. This show made science fun, and thanks to Miss Frizzle, the coolest teacher ever, I passed all my science courses with flying colors. Well, to be fair, I also remember I loved the books when I was a kid, too. I also remember my very first field trip; I got pissed when my bus didn't turn into a rocket and fly away.

7. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
I'll be totally honest; when I was kid, my only memory of My Little Pony was playing with the toys. I never watched the shows - until recently. This show was created, animated, and produced by icons of 90's animation. This new show is a BIG upgrade from the other crappy MLP shows; it has a cool art style, likable characters, and even has plot lines anyone could follow. Yes, it's official, I'm a brony (Don't even think about arguing the pegasister rule, you sexists).

6. Totally Spies
Animes made in Europe? Good? Totally! This show was awesome; it had three strong-willed Beverly Hills high schoolers as the main roles (okay, the plots often revolved around some corny girlie reason, but I digress), gadgets that were pretty creative, and...well, I could fangirl forever, so let's move on.

5. Teen Titans
Again, ignoring the catchy-as-hell theme. Like Totally Spies, this show had anime-influences; BUT...it had comic book roots that the show really kept reminding us of. I also like to think it was a lot of 90's WB cartoons; it had very dark moments, light-hearted moments, and some moments that made you go 'What?" (Fun Fact: The main characters for Fire and Water were originally FCs for the show)

4. Batman: The Animated Series
People talk about this show so much and I'll just end up sounding like a parrot. The show was epic: it was dark, it was dramatic, it was funny at times, etc. I also like how it gave the most of the villains backstories. You felt bad for them, but hated how they turned the way they did. Oh, and should I say the most epic cast ever?! Mark Hamill as the Joker, Kevin Conroy as Batman, etc.

3. Animaniacs
Our generation didn't grow up with old comedy variety shows, so this was a gem. I didn't really get into Tiny Toons when I was younger, so this was my big intro to 90's Warner Bros. cartoon, and oh boy was it a beautiful gateway. The show was also really clever at sneaking in adult jokes - I mean, seriously, half of the stuff looking at it now...wow - but still were true to the old-school comedy/variety show it was trying to go with. Oh, and its cast is so memorable that everyone who watched the show can name them off the bat.

2. Craig McCracken/Genndy Tartakovsky Team projects.
Okay, I watched Powerfpuff Girls the most, but all three of them had common ideas. The animation styles were very similar, the jokes in the show were suited for kids while also being clever enough for adults to chuckle at, and the cast was all likable, in their own ways. I also like how all three shows knew kids' fantasies. I mean, who didn't want a giant lab in their room? Or to fight crime during recess? Or visit your old imaginary friend at his new house?

1. Avatar: The Last Airbender
I call this the Batman: TAS of the 2000's. This show had everything; it was serious, it was goofy, it had a plot that adults could also get into, it had anime-style artwork, it had moments from animes that we could recognize; despite how overused they were, etc. The episodes all connected one way or another, the maturity of our young hero defintely increases - as well as affecting the lives of some of the other characters, and the whole message of how war creates such drastic messes in our lives is really groundbreaking; I mean, it's there, but the show takes its time in giving us the pieces. Also, by giving us an anti-war message while the world was in the big rut America calls "war-on-terror" is what also gives the show a crowning achievement. And with all the reasons listed, that;s why I claim Avatar as my all-time favorite animated TV show.

Avatar is brilliant and in terms of what type of animation is I like to call it the Bat of animated shows (you know how a bat is a combination of bird and beast, so it's a balanced combination of the two.) In this case Avatar is an American animated series, but it's style is very reminiscent of Japanese Anime, so which style does it lean closer to? It really is a fantastic and fascinating piece of animation.

i love friendship is magic(and all its predisesors),animaniacs and avatar..

i think you picked a good show to be #1 on your list (avatar)
i loved how the events in one episode whould often boomerang and effect even an episode long after that particular one had aired....not to mention the beutifull artwork and incredible music, and i especaily love the way they tied up the series and how Zuko became firelord and Aang's (prosumibly Best) friend.

it was also nice that even givin his villan status durring most of the series,Zuko had shown many noble and heroic traits..

and i also liked it that they didnt potrey every fire nation member as a compleat asshole...many of them hated the war just as much (if not more) than the rest of the world.

but problubly my most favoret thing about the series...is how in the end, dispit everyones advice and opinions from his friends, allies and even his own past lives...Aang manadged to defeat Ozai and restor balance, without resorting to killing him...thus doing his avatar duties as well as keeping his moral code as an air monk, perserving a life witch is sacred.
(i have high hopes for the legend of korrah)

this along with the other shows you picked, made up a list full of real winners...witch in my opinion is alot better than most of the crap thats on tv now.

I'm going to back you up on all your points here XD

This really was an animated soap opera; very few strings were left untied at the end of the show. Your comment about the music and artwork I completely agree with. Speaking of the characters, I do find that by making people of the Fire Nation more human, viewers can direct their anger at people who deserve it.

Zuko is, in my opinion, one of the best animated characters ever. He was well developed, had a very complex storyline going for him - which was believable, too - and although he flip-flopped, he still was able to see both sides of the story and gave him the strength to choose. (and yes, I think Aang did become his best friend XD).

I agree that by simply having Aang take away Ozai's bending, the show did something I find refreshing. Killing off the villain just seemed too easy and out of character, so it was really nice that the writers and creators took a new route in teaching kids a lesson on how to deal with big problems.

I do agree about your comment about TV, too; shows nowadays are either too kiddie or too adult - it's hard to find something that's in-between like in Batman, Animaniacs and Avatar. Oh, and I have one thing to say about that M. Night movie: FAIL.

I actually saw the first two episodes of Legend of Korra; they're pretty good [and they make fun of how Zuko's mom's location was never answered XD]

BaratheThornNinja In reply to StarfoxFTW [2012-03-23 05:01:46 +0000 UTC]

Really hardcore fans of the show don't consider female fans "bronies"; instead, a separate category is set for them called "pegasisters". It really ticks me off because I find that incredibly sexist.
