it's just a little illustration i tried to make for the beautiful Gabriel Garcia Marquez' book "Of Love and Other Demons"i tried to portray a very strange dream both Sierva Maria and Cayetano Delaura had in the book. let me give you the quote:
"Delaura had dreamed that Sierva María sat at a window overlooking a snow-covered field, eating grapes one by one from a cluster she held in her lap. Each grape she pulled off grew back on the cluster. In the dream it was evident the girl had spent many years at that infinite window trying to finish the cluster, and was in no hurry to do so because she knew that in the last grape lay death" (G.G.Marquez,translated byEdithGrossman)
well, there were no real demons in the book of course, or at least they weren't visible, but i just felt like drawing Sierva María de Todos los Ángeles with some dreamlike companions. (my personal favourite from all the demons i drew is the standing black one with a beak
)

I don't have my book with me, but I remember this part perfectly (and... I had the book in spanish, so I don't know how did it says in english).

This is beautiful, and I really like the dark feeling of the entire picture. I honestly didn't know there was an version in english, because I've read it in spanish, but I think that the entire idea of drawing her with her imaginary demons (the six of them hehehe) is incredible, because it gives it an aproach that I hadn't even considered before, and is the fact that perhaps she wasn't lying about the demons she had inside

Something about this really touched me even before I read the story behind it. You captured the feel of it so perfectly that reading the story isn't even necessary to understand this piece.

Ahh, this is lovely.
That is one of my favourite books! I've read it over and over and over, the character of Sierva María de todos los Ángeles is just amazing, her sad love story with Cayetano Delaura never ceases to tear my heart appart. This is a nice illustration of the dream, including the demons!!! ^^

well, but don't you think the girl in the picture looks much too peaceful and quiet for Sierva Maria. the character in the book was so much wilder and sensuous, and i'm afraid the girl in my picture looks like some prae-raphaelites' ethereal style of gal, don't you think?

when i saw it i loved exactly how you made her so peaceful, not obviously wild and dangerous, because her apparience as it is described in the book makes me think she was one of those cute girls that when you sas them you couldnt imagine anything evil...not an evidently evil girl but something like greek mermaids ...beautiful but with a touch of something not quite rigth deep inside them.....then all the demons surrounding her make it so clear, at least for me, that all that ethereal image (indeed pre-raphaelite) is just a visage...inside her she is savage...like the demons, and also like love...well...sorry i got so excited about this...
