Description This is the first time I've seen one these in the wild. It was too far away but I'm pleased to have captured it anyway.

Yes the are very hard to capture.
I hope you succeed next year.
I really hope to see one here next year.

Come to think of it, I've never seen one in the wild either.

One time I intruded onto it's territory, it heard me and flew over screaming. Then it saw me, squawked loudly, and flew a U turn. If it had tires, they would have been squealing!

Now you know where to find one, maybe you can go back and just go and sit there for a while. They are used to visit the same place and like to sit near the water on a branch so they can dive in deeper if they see a fish. Was is near the water?
This one looks almost black and white.

Yes, it was at my favorite pond. The pond is not pretty but it is right near the house where I spent my childhood and there are plenty of good memories. Also, it has lots of wildlife, if I can only hide my presence from them! There is an area opposite where I was with a good hiding spot but the morning sun is in my lens and the pictures turn out terrible. Maybe a polarizer? Much of the pond is surrounded by thick brambles with thorns so it is not approachable except in a few places. But when I was looking for a good spot, I found where the deer sleep! I could tell, the leaves were pressed flat and they had been shedding quite a lot.... I would like to get a nice picture of them!

I have been thinking about a polarizer also. You see such beautiful things but always with wrong lighting. Would it work do you think? And isn’t it expensive?

I hope you can get some pictures of the deer!

I know that polarizers help with reflections on water and to darken too bright scenes but to be honest I don't know about shooting in the direction of the sun. I would think it would help but I don't know if sun flare would be a problem. Polarizers are a little bit expensive but not too bad I think. Unless you need a very large one, like for your telephoto. When I have a chance I will try the one I have for my standard lens, just to see....

If you do let me know. but maybe it's easier to just wait for the right weather and light conditions. Much easier!!

Well, it's cheaper at least! I haven't had a chance to try it yet but I will just for my own information. It could help with my bird shots.

I've never seen a kingfisher 'live' before, though I've seen many pics of the orange/blue version we have here in Europe. A beautiful little guy!

I had only seen pictures also. I think of them as Wild birds, so I was pleased. In some of the closer shots, it was clear he saw me but thought he was far enough to be safe. Of course, he was... I'll have to find a way to hide better...

I wish birds wouldn't be quite so attentive. It's really hard to get close enough to get a shot of them at all.

Yes, and as soon as the camera points in their direction, they fly off. Other people can do it, I will have to keep trying!
