Description
I'm experimenting with colours for Aqua. I plan to add shine and streaks to her tail to make it look like that of a betta fish.Thoughts?
EDIT: I put in some shading. This is not something I'm well experienced with, but it definitely looks better than it did. Anyways, until further notice, this is Aqua's reference pic.

hai, tis true. in your animations and stills, the attention to the character shows. the kinds of details that make them fun to see, whilst retaining a fun sense of a cartoony style.

For having little experience with shading, you did a good job. The color shift down the tail and at the hips is done well, and I like the pattern you decided on for the fins.

I am happy with how Aquas' tail turned out. she has such a pretty tail, but the poor thing doesn't believe so.

Hmm. No obvious problems I can see, either with the pure anatomy or the projected stereotype that her looks are associated with. I think you've managed to capture the essence of your envisioned personality for her.
Although I must say that now that I'm thinking about it, by some freak coincidence Aqua is almost a perfect inverse of Lenka, as far as I understand the former's character.

No it's not just you. I kinda always intended for there to be a slight purple-ish tinge, as well as the read streaks.

It wasn't obvious from the flat colours. It was just something I had in mind. Namely, her tail is largely based on that of a betta fish (or siamese fighting fish).

What color streaks were you thinking? I can see red working well to match her hair color, maybe with some yellow as well. Then you could add yellow or highlights to her hair to accent the vibrancy of her tail. She'll then have a mix of the three primary colors.

To be honest, I don't think there's any problem with the redhead thing. If you wanted to be completely realistic, then you might as well take out the hair and clothing altogether, since those would just create unnecessary drag underwater and the top would probably slip off anyway (or at least be a little more lopsided) even if it wasn't underwater by virtue of being only held up on one side by her assets.
These things get excused under rule of cool.
Back to the girl herself, though, she's fine. I wouldn't have minded a little more green in some of her colours, considering that oceans are usually on the blue-green range, but this will work.

Anyway, I thought about adding a little bit of green in there, but y'know, I'm pretty happy with this colour. I suppose i'll try it when I finish shading, but I'm happy with this as the base.

Just a tip, since she is an aquatic creature, her skin colour or fur colour might blend in with the water. Unless that was the point. You probably knew that already, though
