i think this is an excellent piece! the way i see it is this:
his loved one has passed away or has left him for ever, and he's gazing out of the window at the garden just thinking of her, seeing her in his mind's eye. the image that i see in the painting is that of the image of her in his mind's eye coming back to life into his arms again.....due to his strength of feeling for her.
i think the piece is called "irreversability" because it shows something happening that is irreversable (ie she can't ever be with him again). thats why i think that his loved one has probably passed away.
i like the way the painting is kinda faded and uses soft colours to suit the theme.

it's interesting that you find it scary, and that you say she's being drawn away from him. To me the image is the opposite - she's made of sunlight or angel-stuff and it's his presence that makes her solid. For me it's a beautiful and happy image. I really like it.
