From the same Equestria dream that gave me moments and images like this when an invading force from an alternate dimension threatens all life in the world usual antagonists have to set aside there differences to fight a common foe. So it was that Equestria provided technical assistance to help the dragons fight the armies from the Realm of Shadows. Yes dragons have tough, magically resistant skin and their fire is a deadly weapon, but 35mm auto cannons give you stand off range.
