When an individual becomes focused or committed to a particular discipline, philosophy, or subject of interest it almost inevitable that this fascination will start manifesting in other aspects of their life.

In Equestria dreamscape Rainbow Dash has spent much her time over the last couple months training in preparation for this years Best Young Fliers Competition. To this end she’s enlisted the help of Petina and Carousel to help her develop a dance routine derived from the dancing style that the two mares do at the Bucking Mare. link

After some initial hesitation RD link has become a very adept student and has taken the lessons that Petina and Carousel have taught her to heart. link RD has even started taking Rarity’s advice about grooming and hygiene seriously. link

All this study has been conducted in secret so that according Petina; Rainbow Dash’s performance will have the maximum impact on the audience. Also no other pony can steal her style for the competition if they don’t know what she’s doing.

However inevitably some ponies would begin to notice changes in RD, if nothing else Dash’s increased grooming was obvious to almost everypony. RD bright blue hide and prismatic mane and tail have always made in her stand out in a crowd, but there was a shimmer and sheen to it now that really caught one’s eye.

Therefore it wasn’t too surprising that Dash started getting comments and compliments from other ponies about her newfound appearance. However one afternoon while I was out weather working with her I observed something that was quite new.

The weather team I was in consisted of myself, Rainbow Dash, Thunderlane, and Stormwalker. There had been some scheduled morning showers, but the weather forecast called for afternoon sun. So I was up with the team bucking clouds and dispersing the weather cells.

We were all hard at work when something out of the corner of my eye caught my attention. It was RD breaking up a series of cloud cells but in fashion I had never seen her do before. Instead her usual blunt force method of cloud dispersing via kicking and punching the young prismatic mare was rearing up on her hind legs and performing a series swirling pirouettes while swaying her hindquarters whole time. It really was something to watch.

It was then that I realized that I was not the only one watching RD’s little impromptu performance. On a cloud not more than ten yards away was Thunderlane and Stormwalker. Thunderlane was standing there motionless with mouth wide open and his wings fully erect, while Stormwalker sat on her haunches with a gobsmacked look on her face.

After about minute Dash noticed the two ponies staring at her, she stopped dispersing and looked at them.

“Is something wrong? You guys still have that entire acre of cells to disperse. What’s up?”

“Where did you learn those moves?” Asked Stormwalker in a small voice. Thunderlane was still silent, it appeared that his brain had tried shifting gears without the benefit of a clutch and had only succeeded in stripping a couple of the cogs in the process. At least he wasn’t drooling.

“Oh!” Replied Dash. “It’s something I’d seen Petina and Carousel do at the Bucking Mare and I wondered whether the movements could be used for cloud bucking.”

She made another pirouette and made another cloud cell vanish in front of her. She looked back at the Stormwalker. “It seems to work pretty good and my legs don’t get as tired because I’m using my whole body. Whatcha think?”

“It’s really amazing.” Was Stormwalker’s only comment, Thunderlane hadn’t moved or said a word the whole time. To the uninformed observer it might appear that he had taken up a secondary profession as a flytrap or bird house since he still hadn’t moved or closed his mouth.

“Thanks!” Said RD “But if we’re going to get these clouds cleared out we all need to get back to work. I’m going to go below and start breaking this cell from the bottom. You guys keep working up here okay and we’ll have this done in no time!” Then she dove over the side of the cloud and vanished from view.

“Garrppphhhh!” Muttered Thunderlane. “Stormwalker turned and looked at brain-fried stallion. She sighed, shook her head and then scooped a hoof-full of cloud and stuffed it into the stallion’s mouth.

“You heard the boss Thunderlane, back to work!”

“Mmmrrrgoop!” Replied the stallion.
