Description
This is a sketch I did years ago but because the Holiday season is bearing down on us like a speeding freight train I felt it was appropriate to put up. After working almost twenty years in retail at an art supply store you learned to look upon the Holiday season with a rather jaded eye.

Integrating special holiday inventory into the floor displays, dealing with items in holiday flyers but are late in arriving or never show up at all. Hint, those will be items everyone wants. Stressed out confused customers who would usually never set foot into an art store except aunt Harriet just had to have that brush set! Desperate last-minute shoppers, and the holiday music. Oh god the music! It was enough to make you drink heavy just so you could drive the damn songs out of your head!

That said at least our store didn't suffer from the Black Friday insanity like you hear in the media. No employees being trampled to death from stampeding crowds. No tales of customers tear gassing each other just to get that last DVD player on sale. No stupid Black Friday open at Midnight store hours, and no day after Christmas rushes to return items.

In fact the day after Christmas was usually dead. I mean ghost town, tumbleweeds blowing in the wind dead. My dad use to describe situations like this with the following saying. "You could've fired a cannon in the place and not hit anyone!" So it was several years ago I found myself running the store the day after Christmas. As the hours slowly crawled by it was becoming more and more obvious that no one was going to be coming. So as I sat at the frame counter I started scratching out this sketch of Rosemary and my raccoon avatar; then for giggles I decided to start shading it in with a black ballpoint pen. Well this is final outcome.

One of the greatest joys about my new career path is that won't have to deal with any of that crap this Holiday Season! Glee! Not my circus, not my monkeys!
