So this is from my days of RPGing, we were being run through the old Darksytryder Campaign. My GM definitely deviated from the module, so if you are familiar with it, this will be unfamiliar.

We had previously encountered the Des'meric pirates, and that encounter had been a stand off. It turns out they had more ships and this time we were out matched despite my character's attempts at a tactical solution.

We were outclassed and going down.

What we did not know was that within the pirate band there was distention, and this would lead to a coup. The hardline blood thirsty leadership was overthrown and a more anti-imperial pro-liberty faction took control.

If you are familiar with the game system, my character, Commander Xan Derrycc, spent all his "force points" and "character points" over several rolls to successfully crash land and not completely destroy the ship. Our starfighters reported that the pirates had called for a truce, and we successfully negotiated with the new Captains to make them a Rebel Privateer group. They helped us with parts and repairs, and after awhile we were able to take off and return to the nearby safe haven of Gandle Odt for full repairs
