The Old Mule went out fishing
On a pleasant vernal day
He cast out a woven net
That he made from simple hay

But all the sharp-toothed fishes
Simply chewed their way right through
So now he needs suggestions
For whatever he should do

The bullfrog by the dockside
Didn't know just what to say
His methods were too different
To be of much use that day

The party was impending
With no fishes for the feast
But Old Mule was determined
Not to come short in the least

Nearby Little Lost Hour
Tended roses by the dock
Showed him that time was passing
By pointing up to her clock

Lord Baltimore was helpful
He brought a gift for his friend
A stronger net, purpose built
To catch those fish in the end

The sharp-toothed fish were so shocked
That they couldn't get away
The mermaids started laughing
At their comical display

Then all the happy party
Had such a wonderful time
And I hope Old Mule enjoys
This frog's simple gift of rhyme<
