Palest angel, by love disdained
Flowers of rue, her songs’ refrain
Love replaced by grim confusions
Pleasant dreams lost in delusions

Her heart burdened and overwhelmed
Considered mad by all the realm
‘Twas not water in which she drowned
But sorrows where she ran aground

The willow was too weak to bear
The dreadful weight of her despair
Consigned to dwelling with the frogs
A beauty floating in the bog
