Description
Lulo asked Martva once about her experiences that were close to death. She wasn't a big fan of sharing stories about her past but this question was politely answered during Lulo and Martva's late night walks. She prefered to belive that she's immportal and she was actually close to death many times but never bothered about it. It was mostly in fights where she got a lot of wounds, however, there was always someone to offer first aid and help her recover. But there was this one time, not very long ago, that she never spoke of with anyone. She felt like it's a bad thing to share and a it was a mark of her weakness that she tried to hide.
But she shared the story with Lulo. It was this story:
Martva on one of her long lone walks decided to climb Nuyaq, one of the largest peeks in the Taniya Mountains. She wasn't a good climber, she was always a good diver and climbing mountains just wasn't her thing. But she heard enough of Lupe boasting about reaching the top of this particular mountain that she decided to do the same and prove that it wasn't anything special. She woke up early in the morning (even before Molnija) and went on her way. She was completly unprepared - no tack, no one knowing where she's going, no knowledge about from which side should she climb Nuyaq.
The way to the mountains was pretty easy and Martva was strong and muscular, so it wasn't a huge problem for her to get there almost without any problem. She saw other tokotas from far away but no one was following her and no one accosted her. After a few days she reached Nuyaq's mountainside. From the distance the mountain wasn't really looking like a huge one but now it was an overwhelming view and Martva started wondering if it was a good idea after all. Especially that no one knew where she was. But she went all the way here, so why not at least try to get to the top? The view must be beautiful from there, and it's not even the highest mountain in Taniya Mountains. She started climbing from the nothern side and it was going really smoothly. But suddenly she felt that the ground is moving and seconds after a huge rock fell off a rocky cliff on a mountain side. A landslide? Martva wondered, desperately searching for a place to hide but there was none, just more and more smaller and larger rocks falling down. She started jumping around, trying to not get hit. Suddenly she felt a great pain in her right back leg. She looked back in shock, just to notice that one of the larger, sharper rocks left not only a huge cut there but also propably harmed her bone because she wasn't able to move the paw without feeling an enourmous ache. She knew that her own mettle was the only one thing that would help her to live thought this accident. She was sliding down and in desperation she gripped to a tree with her teeth, it wasn't a big one but the bear statues on her left and right looked like rocks would soon destroy them while the tree was more or less stabile. The rocks were falling, falling, falling and her mouth started to hurt too beacuse she had to keep all her bodyweight in one weird position, trying to not be hit and not be overwhelmed by rocks and sand.
After a while - Martva felt like it was a hunderd of years - the ground stopped moving, the rocks stopped falling and she finally could let go. But she was so weak that she fell on her stomach and lied in one place, exhausted. Then she started to walk down the mountain. Maybe she fell asleep - her memories of what happened next were blurry and hazy. She somehow managed to leave the mountains and go back home. The next thing she remembers was lying on her couch in Mer's house and having her leg medicated and fixed up.
When she finished telling Lulo this story, she felt bad and she immadietly regreted sharing it. She was weak. She wasn't able to climb this stupid mountain.
"You're so brave." Said Lulo to her surprise. "And so strong. I don't think anyone here would be able to survive something like this and then return home with a broken leg!" He was so excited. "I think they should make you our Alpha."
