Description
Another model from the russian World of Tanks site, where you can currently find twelve free and high-quality 1/50 paper models of WoT tanks.This is the IS-3. I printed it out half as big as it actually is to get it to 1/72 scale.
I eliminated the white borders of the paper with green colour.
Despite it being made from paper, it's quite sturdy. I also reinforced the model with small hard foam plates and made the turret moveable by drilling holes into the paper/hard foam and glueing a shortened wooden toothpick into the hull.
There were lots of small details on this model, especially at the rear and underside.
I wanted to use a manchuria background but found no good photos - so I chose this chinese one (don't know exact loaction)

The IS-3 has a so-called pike-nose, because on earlier tanks like T-34 and IS-2 shots that bounced on the front plate would sometimes go up and into the turret bottom or mantlet, causing damage. With the pike nose style armour, shots hitting the front are sent to the sides instead.

You don't need to read russian, with common knowledge and maybe google translate you should find your way to the PDF file, the rest is nicely explained in schemes, so you don't need to read anything there either.

An' what's a mobile turret?

The turret of a tank is the round part with the gun that moves when the tank aims.
Now what I did was making the turret of the model tank moveable by putting a toothpick into the hull to put the turret on so it can move without falling off.

Because it had too weak engine compared to overall weight. As a result, Bolshies got tank with thick armour and potent gun, which lacked maneuverability and used same amount of fuel like whole platoon of T-34 tanks.

Yes, and the tank was so flat that it couldn't use hull-down tactics effectively.

Well true but I guess without Stalin the nazis would have won against the western allies or the victory would have taken a lot longer.

I agree, Stalin's involvement made the combat in the Western Front much easier for the Western Allies. Though we cannot forget about victims of communist totalitarianism - think about people from DDR suffering under communist yoke. I read they had equally bad nightmare in commie shackles like we Poles did between 1939 and 1991.

Yes. My relatives were from western Berlin / western Germany so I cannot tell from real experiences but striking down peaceful protests with tanks is probably not very good for the social climate in a country.
Yet all dictators had good and bad sides about their reign. This is what we have to face. Looking at one side's propaganda just gives us one side of the medal.

True too but with all the evil that was done by dictators - we have to face that they did things that we still rely upon today and that benefited infrastructure. The nazis established postal codes and built motorways for example. Would that mean that germans should not use the motorway and not write letters to show respect for the victims of world war two?

Yea indeed lol when the British ruled Ireland for 400 years, we won our independence in 1921...well...75% of our independence XD N.I is till in the UK but the British helped establish some of our cities here XD
