"What?!" Jean yelled almost loud enough for everyone to hear.

"You can't be serious, Eren. Captain has a kid?" Connie asked incredulously.

"That's what Hanji said. She called (y/n) Levi's child." Eren defended. The table fell silent. They were too distracted to notice you standing at the door to the dining hall.

"Kid, this way!" Levi called across room. You pushed the door fully open
and entered. The new recruits stared in shock.

"You were right, Eren." Jean and Connie whispered in unison. You looked over at them. Your (h/l) (h/c) hair swayed in sync with your (f/c) dress. Everyone knew you as the odd kid who was allowed to stay with the Survey Corps. As Levi's daughter? No one would have guessed.

"How's Levi's kiddo?" Hanji asked. You took your usual place between Levi and Hanji. "I'm good, Aunt Hanji!" you replied smiling.

"Eat your food, (y/n)." Levi commanded flatly.

"Yes, Papa." Levi did his best not to grimace. He was uncomfortable when you were affectionate. Hanji laughed.

"Shorty, she just loves you." Hanji remarked, noting the captain's
discomfort.

"Shut up, Four-eyes."

After breakfast, everyone was given the day off as a reward for their hard work. The cadets decided to sit outside.

"Captain Levi has a child. I still find it hard to believe." Armin thought aloud.

"Maybe it's a joke." Mikasa remarked quietly.

"We should ask!" Sasha suggested.

"Brave enough, Jaeger?" Jean goaded. Eren stood and challenged Jean to see who would have to face Levi.

"Papa, why are you working? I thought everyone had the day off." You gazed at Levi curiously.

"I still have to finish some paperwork." Levi kept his gaze fixed on the papers.

"When will you be done?"

"Soon. If you stop pestering me, I can finish faster."

"Papa," you drawled, "when you finish, can we get a snack?"

Levi let out a frustrated sigh. He was about to respond when a knock
interrupted him.

"Coming!" you called out. You walked to the door and opened it to reveal
Erwin.

"Hi, Uncle Erwin! Do you need Papa? He's kinda busy."

"I'm sure he can make time for me, (y/n)." Erwin ruffled your hair as he passed. You promptly closed the door.

"Erwin, what is it?" Levi asked curtly. He set his paperwork aside. You wandered back to your place on the couch and watched the men intently.

"Levi, what do you plan on doing with (y/n)?"

'Will he take me away?' you questioned silently. At this thought, the color drained from your face. You rushed to Levi and tugged at his jacket. He looked over to see tears forming in your eyes. Levi picked you up and settled you on his lap. You positioned your head over his heart and the rhythmic beating calmed you.

"She's made you soft." Erwin joked. Levi glared up at the commander.

"(y/n) is my child. I can hold her if I wish." Levi declared coldly. Erwin stiffened at Levi's unusually icy tone but quickly relaxed.

"Who will watch her when we go on the next mission?"

"I will take her to Commander Pixis. He knows how to care for her."

"Fair enough. Is (y/n) all right? She seems pale." Erwin noted with
concern. Levi looked at you.

"Are you sick?" Levi held his hand to your forehead.

"No, Papa." You sent Erwin a half-hearted glare. The commander just
laughed. Of all the habits you picked up from Levi, he found this one to be the most amusing.

"No fair! You cheated, Jaeger!"

"Did not, Kirstein!"

"Jean, it was fair." Connie interrupted. Jean sighed in defeat. He was to
be the one to ask about you.

"Papa, I'm hungry. Can we eat lunch yet?" you pleaded.

"Yes, (y/n), lunch will be served soon. We can go to the dining hall now." Levi stood up. You copied this motion and grabbed Levi's hand. Levi groaned inwardly. He should have been used to your loving nature by now. Was he? Absolutely not.

"Let's go, Papa!" You tugged the captain's hand. Levi complied. You walked hand-in-hand to the mess hall. As you entered, a hush fell over the recruit's table. Jean stood up. This caught your attention, and you stopped. Levi immediately took notice.

"What?"

"Him." You pointed to Jean. Your actions made the boy nervous. Jean
swallowed hard and approached.

"Captain Levi, may I ask a question?" Jean saluted.

"Proceed, cadet." Levi intoned. His dispassionate gaze served to further
unnerve Jean.

"I-Is (y/n) really your daughter?"

"Yes and no."

"Yes and no?" Jean echoed.

"She isn't my biolgical child. I chose her." You smiled. Your father never displayed his emotions, but he showed his love in ways only you could see.

"Thank you for answering my question, Sir." Jean left quickly. You heard the cadets debating the new information they had just received. The rest of the day passed normally.

Night had fallen. You yawned and rubbed your eyes sleepily.

"Papa, are we going to bed soon?" Levi glanced over at you. You seemed
ready to pass out from exhaustion.

"Yes, we're going to bed now." Levi set the last of his work aside and
stood up. He made his way over to you. You gazed up with a soft smile. Levi lifted you off the couch and cradled you to his chest.

"Good night, Papa." You nuzzled against Levi and fell asleep instantly.

"Good night, my sweet child." Levi whispered, softly kissing your forehead.
