Another "portable system" type receiver, now based on Electro-Voice's great but fairly unappreciated line of EV receivers. I got my hands on an EV-1177 about a year back with a large lot of other stuff, and it stood out as squat, cute, and comically worse than the specs would imply -- but fuck distortion figures, it produces music! This one stands at around four inches tall, so it's petite enough for all you hipsters out there.

The tape transport here was a bit of a doozy, as I couldn't find any evidence that Electro-Voice had ever actually produced a tape deck... So, after some consideration, I decided to go with a protruding transport rather than a recessed one. While what I produced was based somewhat on Pioneer's CT-F950, it felt like EV wouldn't just tack some metal bits on, so I designed this to work as a single machine piece on the faceplate. An expensive proposition, but good thing we aren't actually making these, right?

This idea came about from my obsession with 80s portable systems, and all the hoodlum baggage that come with them, but my disdain for their generally awful plastic builds and styling. 1970s to the rescue! While metal and glass might not be the best of choices when your goal is portability, it sure makes for a much more compelling interface.
