“Well, I think we all learned something today!” Emilia wrapped up at The Dungeon’s entryway, grinning with golden ticket in hand. “Rose learned what it’s like to be a little barracuda in a guppy pond! Adara learned you shouldn’t spare the rod with some kids. And I learned I shouldn’t doubt myself, or my judgment!”
Adara glared at Green, instigator of the skirmish. “I don’t you’ve really learned anythi--.”
“So I’ll just hold onto this invite,” Emilia concluded, ducking around the corner, voice trailing off as she retreated into the corridor. “And assess all potential candidates before the Invitational starts!”
“I don’t think Ms. Green’s giving it back,” Rose said glumly.
Adara sighed. “I think Ms. Green will, for a change, be too preoccupied with McMango business to visit The Dungeon for a while.”
“Maybe you should be the one entering the tournament?” Rose offered. “Or you just don’t wanna risk getting embarrassed?”
“You’re the one in need of humbling, Rose,” Adara softly rebuked her. “You’ve had that reality check coming for a while now. But I wouldn’t have left you hanging in the tourney, and I’d have been there to catch you when you fell.”
“Or, you know, you could’ve just fought me for realsies,” suggested Rose. “Weeks ago... so I’d already know I had a lot to learn.”
“You have a lot to learn,” Adara corrected her. “And when you’re an instructor whose teaching method is fighting her students ‘for realsies’, you be sure to let me know how that works out.”
Rose shrugged. “I guess I’ll be learning a thing or two from Ms. Green, when we see her in action... showing us how The Empress gets it done.”
“Maybe,” supposed Adara. “Or maybe you’ll learn what it’s like when a middle-aged action junkie can’t let go of the limelight.”
