"Sometimes one, sometimes five; the white shadow that moves unseen..."They debuted in the US as Battle of the Planets, then we knew 'em as G-Force, and then Saban released them as Eagle Riders. But they were always were, and will always be- the Kagaku Ninjatai, the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman!
Released back in October 1972 by Tasunoko, they revolutionized anime as we know it. Being the first sentai, Gatchaman created the classic formula for almost all animes that followed it. So you can say I was pretty lucky to be part of the comic book revival by Alex Ross and Top Cow Productions. ^___^
This was the 2-page spread in issue #1, layouts and corrections by Alex Ross, pencils by me, and the amazing colors were by Shane Law of Udon Studios. I though this would be a good post after the last one(which of course, was another retro anime revived in comics )

How can anyone ever reconcile Casey Kasem's voice with Mark (Ken) in Battle of the Planets? It was terrible casting in the first English speaking release. Mark sounded like he was gonna say "Hey, Scoob here are some snacks". Casey Kasem is a good voice actor, but this role just didn't suit him. Justin Bieber's voice would've been a better match XD Sandy Frank should've hired an unknown yougun back in the 1970s. Alternatively he could've hired Mel Blanc who could do the entire cast.

It's been a long time since I saw this anime. I can hardly remember how things were after being overshadowed by another show entitled Voltes. HAHa. Anyway, love your works.

I was obsessed with Battle of the Planets as a child. I even made my own wrist communicator. I was in love with Mark and remember finding a comic book once in this old out of the way store and it was my greatest treasure for years and years. Odd as an adult I cant even find them nor any of the DVDs.
