I did a little test; Putting Skylanders characters in a classic Spyro setting. I may do more, but i wanted to start with my favorite skylander, Whirlwind.
The unicorn palace has been shrouded in darkness! After their horns had been stolen by a ruthless band of thieves, the unicorns haven't been able to conjure any magic to power their home. Under the request of the dragon/unicorn hybrid Whirlwind, it's up to Spyro to get 'em back. Why? Unicorns can't see in the dark very well.

I've never played Skylanders (it seemed really gimmicky) but I like your concept! The way you describe the level sounds like something out of Ripto's Rage.

I can imagen after you do the chracters request you can play as them in their own sceario like sonic adventures.

this so feels like the plot of a spyro gba game. first the fairies then fireflies then unicorn horns. or a side quest in Year of the Dragon

Wow this is an interesting idea, I like what you have done in this picture.
I'm surprised nobody has thought to put the skylanders in classic Spyro setting, it certainly would be interesting to see what other back-stories you would create for the other skylanders.
