Thank you Roberta!
I have been reading about your ordeal after hurricane Sandy... I was not aware that you were in its wake. I am sure glad that you and yours are all safe!

Thanks, Bassem, I am also grateful that my entire family is safe and all our homes are unscathed. I was pretty shaken up by the whole thing honestly. It just seemed so unnatural that a hurricane could get to us so far inland - who ever heard of a storm 1,000 miles wide? So I'm definitely concerned about global warming being the cause.
In our area it wasn't as bad as what you've probably seen on the news - those were the coastal areas that were so destroyed. Around here the shocking thing was how many trees fell down - many of them were completely uprooted and fell on homes. Some people were sadly killed by falling trees. Also the massive power outages and the gas shortages... people also died from generator fumes...
Things have gone pretty much back to normal at this point but every time I go by any place with trees I'm reminded of what happened. The forests look like battlefields littered with dead soldiers because of all the fallen trees. So sad. I think it will be years before all the trees are cleaned up. I've never been so careful about recycling in all my life - I still have hope we can save this beautiful planet.

Apparently it's pretty common that people die from the generator fumes if the generators aren't used properly. After the hurricane, many people set the gasoline generators up inside their garages where the carbon monoxide fumes could leak into their homes and they were killed in their sleep. Also the generators set up indoors caused a lot of fires that killed people. So tragic and unnecessary because these generators can be very safely used outdoors with a transfer switch. But people didn't know and things were so crazy so they lost their lives.
Things have really returned to normal at this point around here. The only reminder is all the fallen trees in wooded areas that still haven't been cleaned up. (No more trees in the roads, thankfully!) Most of the woods still look like battle grounds. Our area has many wooded spaces so the reminder is almost daily.
I agree as long as there is life there is hope. I still believe we can save this planet.
