Description This is my minimalist interpretation of Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa in a 64 x 54 hexagonal form, the smallest I felt could capture the piece. Each hexagon consists of 5 shades of it's respective color, and I rather like the tangible sense of texture this creates. As an additional challenge, I sought to limit my palette to as few colors as possible while maintaining the iconic impact of the original painting. I also used somewhat brighter colors for a surprisingly cartoony and cheerful impression.

There are a 3556 Hexagons Total, in only 9 different colors. Here is the break-down:

993 Dark Green
876 Brown
658 Light Green
424 Off-White
291 Light Skin
209 Dark Skin
92 Medium Skin
7 Pink
6 White

Additional information:

I adapted his from a 64 x 42 pixel digital painting of Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa I did in Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 (and later incorporated into my image Blinded with Scions ). I selected the Mona Lisa because it is quite possibly the most famous and recognizeable image ever created.

This is really nice, I never learned to do that when I had MS Paint.

Thanks! It mostly depends on what you get accustomed to using. Without automatic anti-aliasing, transitions, etc, MS Paint is quite labor-intensive, but still workable. One just has to get used to the color palette and using copy-paste with a transparent background color to take the place of wrking with layers.
Thanks for the comment!

I like how you did the color hexes. The shades make the colors blend from one hex to the next which makes it easier to look at. Very nice.

You didn't think after our nice conversation I wouldn't look at your artwork?

Yep, I think every artist has to do a Mona Lisa Knock-off at some point. It's kind of a rite of passage in the art world.

Glad to read it! This is my first art that was based on an already famous image, so I wasn't sure how people would react.

Wow, that is really cool, that's amazing you did that in ms paint. How long did it take you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BatmanWithBunnyEars In reply to typopirate [2009-10-10 00:05:35 +0000 UTC]

Actually not too long. It's hard to gauge since I started with a pixel image I had already drawn a while back. I blew it up and made a repeating honeycomb outline to put over it as a guide and I made nine simple hexagonal shapes (one of each color) and proceeded to overlay them. I then made adjustments where I thought they were appropriate.

Thanks for the comment and fav!
