Rules & FAQ The BFOI Story
Chatroom Ohana Map Applications
Monday, June 4th. Herded by a Chansey into the FiNex Institution's spacious courtyard, anxious Students assembled before the fountain. Once it seemed everyone was in attendance, the Chansey, Helga, put away the extra flyers and took her place next to her Trainer. Ariel McCloud quietly thanked her Pokémon for the assistance before stepping forward to address the crowd.
"The dawn of a new semester at FiNex."
With a warm smile, Ariel began speaking. "Good morning everyone, and welcome to the start of the new term here at FiNex!" Her fellow faculty members, Natsuki, Kazza, and Urith, waved hello next to her, trying not to come off as awkward. Ariel coaxed Kazza to step forward and stand in-between Natsuki and her before she continued speaking.
"As you know, we will be teaching you not only the basics of Pokémon Training, but the fundamentals on how to care of them, how to support each other, and various sciences to prepare you all for your own journeys, be they Trainer, Ranger or something down a different path entirely."
Kazza quickly stepped forward to add onto his coworker's spiel. "Don't forget we'll also be teaching battling and survival techniques. By the time we're finished with you guys, you'll be able to take on any disaster!"
Ariel's cheeks turned red, Natsuki tried to laugh through a glare, and 'Rith facepalmed. Several Students in the crowd appeared panicked at Kazza's outburst.
"While it's true that the curriculum will include preparing you for crisis situations, none of you will be placed in any danger while you're enrolled here," Ariel quickly countered, "As many of our staff members are fully trained and qualified Civil Defense Responders, able to act swiftly in the unlikely event of a emergency." Her cheery demeanour restored calm to even the youngest in the crowd. "Now if you'll please direct yourselves to the faculty's Pokémon assembled nearby, you'll receive your dorm assignments, class schedules, and campus maps! If any of you have questions, we'll be happy to assist you."
Subject One: The Introductory Course
Focus: Storytelling. Each Study should show a different aspect of your character and give a solid introduction to who your character is.
Format: Free media. You can submit anything except literature submissions.
This subject is to show us your basic storytelling abilities, artistic skill level, and technical knowledge, allowing us to have a solid reference point to gauge your growth and improvement on throughout the Student course.
Study One: Dormitories - Where is your Student staying? How are they settling in to that new or old space? What does their room look like? How do they like their new roommate(s)?
Study Two: Classrooms - Do they like what they're learning so far? Who do they sit by during these first days? Do they like their totally amazing teachers? Are they sleeping instead of taking notes!?
Study Three: Courtyard - What does your Student do in their free time? Who do they hang out with? Are they working on homework like they should or daydreaming about being a Pokémon Master or Top Ranger?
These Study prompts are open to whatever your character and you want to do, so long as they recognisably take place in the specified locations and show a different aspect of who your character is.
Extra Credit
Include one of the Teachers (Ariel, Kazza & 'Rith, Natsuki ) in one or more of your Studies.
Exam One: To make sure their Students are settling well into both school life and the Ohana Islands, the teachers all conduct short, one-on-one interviews with their Students.
Are they liking school alright? Is the class too hard or too easy for them? Do they respond with gushing excitement about everything that's happened or are they silent and give only the occasional grunt of understanding?
Like the Studies, this first exam is free media, but be sure to focus on one of the teachers talking to your Student!
Students will need to complete at least two Studies before being allowed to partake in the first Exam. Please note that these Studies need to be accepted into the BFOI gallery and be given feedback on before the Exam can be submitted.
Additional notes:
- At no time are Students permitted to battle unsupervised. Any unnecessary aggression will result in an automatic decline of a Study submission.
- You may write additional story elements in your Artist's Comments (AC) if you desire, but note that the AC has no bearing on the submission itself.
Submission Information
While there are no deadlines for completing Subjects, we advise you all to keep up with your schoolwork so you can take part in later Subjects and Exams. Each subsequent Subject requires you to pass the previous's Exam before moving on.
You can submit Subject One's Studies and Exams here!
Study submissions do not need to be polished/refined, but please submit them as complete as possible so that we can give meaningful feedback. If you would like comments or assistance with a WIP (Work In Progress), please comment on this journal with a link the WIP in either your scraps or stash, and one of our three Teachers will get back to you asap. Alternatively, the 'WIP Rule' exists in the BFOI Chat Room for this purpose as well.
Exams need to be fully complete pieces of work, and if they have multiple parts, then those parts need to be linked to one another in the AC (Artist Comments).
And as always, make sure all relevant Character Apps (including your own) are linked in the AC of your submissions.
