My first commission forHe requested a pic of the 2 newer Egg Bosses from the Sonic comic series, Cassia and Clove
I actually had fun doing this pic for him.Β These two are neat looking characters and we don't see much artwork of them.Β Then again you only see them once at the end of the comic so far.

Why must Archie have more unique characters?

Because they lost their old characters. They need to refill the gaps so that the stories will remain interesting.

So THAT's what is with the new characters- they were meant to replace the old ones. I see. But... Why can't SEGA invest in making their characters more unique?!?!

I wouldn't say "replaced" necessarily. Some are definitely similar to previous characters, but they got additional aspects which makes them unique.
Take Relic the Pika, for instance. She's a young archeologist obsessed with researching Echidna culture, but got stranded on Angel Island as a result. She serves as a female companion for Knuckles, but isn't a love interest (despite the shippers' claims). She's only there to aid him whenever the Master Emerald needs protection. She's also a complete bookworm.Β
But there's plenty of new characters too; most of whom are villains.
Eclipse the Darkling is a popular new addition.Β He's a nasty individual with malevolent goals, but he genuinely cares for his minions/siblings and is willing to protect them at any costs. He also treats Shadow like a long-lost brother. He wants to be with him, which makes his attempts all the more tragic since they're sworn enemies.
There's also Clove and Cassia (pictured above). They're a pair of pronghorn sisters who've fallen onto hard times. Cassia is suffering from a fatal illness and the only way her older sister, Clove, could save her was by joining Eggman's army to have her partially roboticized. But now that they've joined the ranks, they cannot leave. And to make matters worse, Cassia's cyborg implants aren't helping her recover. And they're the villains!Β
As for SEGA's characters, from what I've gathered, it has something to do with brand recognition. The mandate states that the characters' personalities must remain consistent with the games - which, admittedly, haven't been all that spectacular lately. Games like "Colors" and "Generations" were incredibly bland when it came to storytelling, and "Lost World" wasn't much better either. With a lack of potential character development for Sonic and the gang, it's up to the Freedom Fighters and other characters to keep the storyline engaging.

i have actually started on one but ive put a hold on continuing it, im in an art college now so maybe it will be good to wait and make the comic better in the future

Building a robot army seems to be more along the lines of what he does though. He usually wants to attack Sonic's world which includes all Mobians.

Great stuff! I am so glad I got you to do these two characters. They have so much potential in the future of the comic and I think you captured them both brilliantly here.
