Just what audience do you think this will reach?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Bauscheborzel In reply to MasterOfPointillism [2010-09-26 12:35:32 +0000 UTC]

that's a good question, really
we actually didn't think about who we would like to reach in special but were hoping that people who look at it would think about the topic. that's all we wanted to achive

MasterOfPointillism In reply to Bauscheborzel [2010-09-27 14:04:23 +0000 UTC]

Well, hopefully it might get some people involved in stopping the butchery of sharks for just their fins alone. However, I'd suggest that if you really care about this issue that you actually do something about it instead of 'hoping' that others might. If you are going to create propaganda you really need to actually think about what you are doing and who you're trying to reach in order for it to be effective. Otherwise it just looks like you are throwing sh*t against the wall 'hoping' that something might stick ...

I dare say we really care about shark finning. We're both involved in WWF Youth (www.wwf-jugend.de) and in PANGAEA. We spent our free time traveling to different cities, talking to people about shark finning and other issues and start fundraising actions.
you might take a look at the description, i posted a link there ( [link] )
i wouldn't dare telling others to stop something if i wouldn't know the details. I made this artwork for a t-shirt design competition ( i wrote that in the description too), and the money we earn by selling those shirts is used 100% for shark conservation...

I know this sounds a bit snappy, and i'm sorry about that. but in my opinion shark finning is a real problem and it really matters to me....

Glad to hear that you are very different than most 'activists'. You might think about asking other artists to help you out in your T-shirt designs.

I don't know about where you are, but here in the US most kids love to wear T-shirts with sharks on them, not sharks without fins and dead. If you put a good design on the front and maybe a message on the back it might sell more ...

Bauscheborzel said: "we're actually being members of the WWF youth as well as Pangaea, where young people started the shark project. as groups of about 10 people we went to Stuttgart (Germany) and ZΓΌrich (Switzerland), telling people facts about sharks, creating awareness and foundraising money in order to support the pangaea shark project."
My reply:
This is a great idea, are there any aquariums in those areas?

not that I knew. but we were thinking about going to the aquarium in konstanz. Of course we need to get in contact with the people there first but we'll see what we can do

They should at least kill them in a proper manner. Just so much put to waste - if you're going to kill something like that then you might as well make use of all of it.

Cutting off fins and left to die? Not the nicest of things.

*Sharks can be killed, its just that they shouldn't be over killed imo... every creature has its part to play in the food chain.

They actually just cut the fins off and throw the shark back??

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Bauscheborzel In reply to smbhax [2010-09-23 14:42:57 +0000 UTC]

that's pretty much what they do, yes. the shark then suffocates from an lack of oxygen as sharks need to keep moving in order to be able to breath

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Bauscheborzel In reply to smbhax [2010-09-23 15:15:58 +0000 UTC]

that'S why we think it should be stopped

anya1916 In reply to Bauscheborzel [2010-09-24 08:22:50 +0000 UTC]

well, even if they do kill the shark before cutting off his fins, it'd still be awfull and we'd still have to make it stop.
It reminds me the ivory trade, hunters killing elephants and rhinos just to take their horns...

Bauscheborzel In reply to anya1916 [2010-09-24 08:48:38 +0000 UTC]

true. but as long as movies tell people that sharks are reckless killers longing for human flesh, it'S kinda hard to convince people that they should save sharks..

anya1916 In reply to Bauscheborzel [2010-09-24 21:36:34 +0000 UTC]

movies and shows... Sharks are the only species suffering of this, even lions and tigers can be called "kittens"
