Description
A capture of a female Damselfly (platycnemis pennipes) that I took down by the jetty at my familys summer weekend cottage last summer. It was very difficult to capture these damselflies becouse they are very shy and the wind was blowing pretty much and they didn't seem to wanted to stay still at all. Anyways got a few pretty decent shots that I'm pleased with.Dennis

I guess you will not find them in your garden that much becouse they usually love to be near watershores etc but it often happends that they take trips into gardens. Thanks

ahh, ok.. well, we don't have any water where i am.. bit of a drought going on over here, especially in my area. maybe when the water comes back, i'll be able to capture something!

Hi you dont know me but I watch your stuff which I like, in fact i love it. But....man I hate bugs and would hate to live where you do. I particualy like the detail of the macro stuff of the the bugs. It freeks me out.

I understand what you mean about your fobia against bugs etc but I concider myself blessed that I have bugs, insects and the nature we have in Finland that gives me photo oportunities. Yes I spent many hours that day just sitting still on a spot waiting for a damsel to get close and rest for a while so I could take the shot.

I've tried photographing damselflies and know exactly what you mean about them being shy.

I was wondering where you usually find damselflies, are there usually dragonflies about , or are they mostly loners and you stalk just one?
I'm ever so lucky if I even see one here.

Damselflies like to hang around near small streams or rivers and Dragonflies are often spotted amongst them. In the summers they usually fly around in big packs or then they fly alone it depends on the day actually. Hope you get the chance to find some of these beautiful flies one day.
